Assessments

Most dementia assessments are currently done in paper-and-pencil format. As both administering and analyzing the tests requires the presence of a clinician, and documentation manual work, the assessment of each patient is costly and time-consuming.
The BRAIN project aims to improve the reliability of cognitive diagnoses by developing guided, adaptive, and sensitive tests. Automatic test analysis increases the accuracy and efficiency of the clinician. By integrating intervention performance data and increase of patient compliance, the project allows digital monitoring of symptom progression.
Rehabilitation & Intervention

Yet clinical and community implementation remains slow, heterogeneous and unregulated. BRAIN is in a unique position to tackle several key hurdles to clinical uptake of CCT:
- Lack of awareness among clinicians and consumers for the benefits of CCT;
- Misconceptions and scepticism among clinicians and consumers regarding CCT;
- High variability and low adherence in home-based CCT, leading to weak effects and retention;
- Lack of established methods for maintaining gains in the long-term.
Computerised cognitive training (CCT) can be defined as an approach for enhancement and maintenance of cognitive performance based on repeated practice on cognitively challenging tasks. CCT differs from other cognition-oriented approaches by virtue of its focus on specific cognitive processes or domains rather than explicit learning.
Improve first-line intervention to augment cognition and prevent cognitive decline. A strong body of evidence supports the efficacy and effectiveness of CCT on cognitive and functional outcomes across the lifespan and cognitive disorders. Given its relatively low cost, safely, scalability and adaptivity, medical-grade CCT has the potential to become a first-line intervention to augment cognition and prevent cognitive decline.
Who is it for
BRAIN aims to provide an integrated therapeutic platform for closing the CCT implementation gap, augmenting CCT outcomes and creating loyalty and advocacy among consumers and clinicians alike. Specifically, we aim to provide:
Insights, guidance and help for any interested physician;
Facilitation of the therapeutic alliance and monitoring CCT outcomes;
Perception of CCT as a lifestyle activity rather than merely a therapy;
Initial access at the point of care (POC, e.g. clinic, care facility);
Personalisation and adaptivity on the fly (difficulty, content, schedule);
Platform for further technical, clinical and scientific R&D in the field.
